PROJECT BRIEF
CivCo Ltd was commissioned to enhance the functionality, efficiency and safety of Magherafelt Waste Transfer Station (WTS). The project aimed to modernise infrastructure, improve operational capacity and ensure compliance with industry regulations. By incorporating advanced engineering solutions and sustainable construction practices, the project significantly improved access to recycling facilities and promoted responsible waste management.

PROJECT KEY POINTS
The project involved a series of structural modifications and facility upgrades, all while ensuring the recycling facility remained fully operational and open to the public.
New Facilities & Infrastructure
- Construction of a steel-clad, portal-frame building to serve as a dedicated vehicle parking area.
- Development of an open-faced shed for green waste storage.
- Installation of a modular prefabricated office building.
- Installation of all necessary utility connections, including water, sewage, and power.
Structural Enhancements:
- Reconfiguration of roller doors, including new openings and refurbishment of existing ones.
- Construction of reinforced concrete retaining walls and associated earthworks to achieve required site levels.
- Installation of internal reinforced concrete push walls for enhanced load-bearing capacity.
Drainage & Environmental Considerations:
- Upgrades to foul and surface water drainage systems, including CCTV surveys of pipework upon project completion.
- Installation of flow control devices and interceptors for improved water management.
Site Preparation & Finishing Works:
- Casting of concrete yards and construction of associated foundations.
- Provision of bitmac surfacing for enhanced durability.
- Installation of site safety features, including lighting columns, security fencing, barriers, bollards, and gates.
- Road markings and traffic signage for enhanced site safety and traffic management.
- General landscaping and a final site clean-up to ensure a polished finish.
PROJECT OUTCOME
The successful completion of this project delivered a modernised and efficient Waste Transfer Station that meets industry standards and community needs. The upgrades improved operational flow, enhanced site safety and ensured long-term sustainability in waste management. Through expert planning and execution, CivCo Ltd has provided a facility that will serve the community effectively for years to come.
