PROJECT BRIEF
Larne Skate Park project transformed an underused greenfield site at Larne Town Park into a cutting-edge concrete skate facility, strategically located next to a popular seafront walkway. Commissioned by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, the park was developed in response to strong community demand for inclusive recreational spaces.
Designed for use by all wheeled sports disciplines – including skateboarding, BMX, scooters and inline skating – the park ensures safe and engaging access for users of all ages and skill levels. Constructed from in-situ sprayed smooth concrete, it features an array of custom-built elements such as quarter pipes, grind rails, hubbas and ramps. Surrounding works included tree trimming and the installation of Bitmac access paths to improve connectivity and safety.

PROJECT KEY POINTS
1. Consideration of the Needs of the End User
The skatepark was purposefully designed with inclusivity, safety, and usability in mind. Located in a socially and economically challenged area, it serves as a vital free resource for local youth, offering physical activity, community engagement, and mental well-being. The seamless surface, free from drainage channels in active zones, ensures a smooth and hazard-free user experience.
2. Client Engagement and Satisfaction
From concept to completion, the project was delivered in close partnership with Mid & East Antrim Borough Council. Post-completion feedback highlights strong user adoption and pride within the local community.
3. Buildability & Quality of Finish
Using in-situ sprayed concrete allowed for optimal control over surface precision and durability. High technical standards were maintained through sealed joints, level finishes and strategic surface grading for water runoff without interfering with activity areas. Attention to detail reflects a commitment to long-term performance.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Larne Skate Park is now a fully operational, dynamic public facility that significantly enhances Larne Town Park’s recreational offering. It provides an inclusive, modern space for wheeled sports and encourages active, healthy lifestyles. With exceptional community reception and successful delivery against all benchmarks, the project stands as a model of effective civic enhancement and public realm improvemen.
